you

will represent to the secretary of State for

the Colonces that in a letter dated 3/4t December last, the local Auditor at Hong Kong sent a

Report to this Office upon the subject of the Store Accounts of the Water and Dramage. Department, the condition of which appeared to be far from satisfactory. Mr Nicolle was accordingly requested to obtai information from the Colonial Government upon the following points.

1. The insufficiency of Store accommodation

and the inadequate protection of 1

the Stores. 2 . The inefficiency of Subordinate officers

placed in

charge of the Stores.

3. The accumulation of Stores described as

"obsolete", and "never likely to be used.
